Duties

Must be able to work in a professional engineering team-based environment. Engineering teams are responsible for the design and integration of control systems for customer applications and processes. Duties may include and are not limited to leading a team in wiring diagram design and providing technical consultation. Team members have the opportunity to learn new skills and to work in a very rewarding and fast-paced environment that varies from customer to customer.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervision of controls hardware activities:
  2. Project documentation
  3. Customer/supplier meetings and presentations
  4. Training employees on customer/project standards
  5. Plan to execute work within established budgets
  6. Report metrics regularly
  7. Forecast time/resources to complete remaining work
  8. Supervise activities of functionally assigned personnel
  9. Execute, supervise, and verify all work performed is according to area and customer specifications and expectations
  10. Apply special knowledge of automation, controls and robotics where applicable
  11. Travel to customer sites as necessary for customer meetings, addressing electrical problems, or performing field checks

Technical Skills

  1. Understand the Electrical, pneumatic and water schematics for, and complete the integration of, industrial automation systems, including:
  2. Ability to read, understand and apply customer specifications and standards
  3. Eplan working knowledge
  4. System and component layouts
  5. Determine I/O needs from mechanical switch layouts
  6. Utilize process information from sequence of operation and timing charts
  7. Design and configure cable layouts and interconnection diagrams
  8. Pneumatic design concepts
  9. Design power distribution
  10. Design of magnetic wiring circuits
  11. Design robot interface diagrams
  12. Design network diagrams
  13. Design I/O card diagrams
  14. Verify and update component tagging and labeling
  15. Use and verify cable charts and receptacle pinout diagrams
  16. Ability to check your and others work
  17. Wire gauge specifications and colors
  18. Research and apply information from product data sheets
  19. Cable and cable tray routing
  20. Can properly apply document revisions and levels
  21. Prepare wiring diagrams for customer release
  22. Interface with in-house engineering staff
  23. Communicate with vendors for technical information and specifications
  24. Verify wiring diagrams with components in the field
  25. Produce documentation, calculations and presentations
Additional Information

Education and Experience:

Seven plus years of applicable experience, that includes design of wiring diagrams for industrial controls equipment. Must have knowledge of multiple customer platforms.
Bachelor’s degree in a controls related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent)
Experience that includes complete knowledge of all aspects of design to production, including software design and commissioning.
