Ranked on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list with consistent growth over the past three years, this company works across industries including medical devices, automotive, aerospace, consumer products, and fitness technology. They are ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 certified, with state-of-the-art facilities featuring collaborative engineering spaces and custom production “cells” for in-house prototyping and low-volume manufacturing. Projects span smart food storage systems, IoT-enabled devices, medical mobility solutions, automotive sensors, and fitness training equipment with integrated mobile applications.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join this multidisciplinary product development team. This is a contract-to-hire position, backfilling a senior engineer who has been promoted into project management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in concept-to-prototype electrical design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, and prototype testing.

You will work closely with customers, internal mechanical and firmware engineers, and manufacturing teams to bring innovative products to life—from initial design concepts through functional prototypes and low-volume builds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design for new product development projects across medical, consumer, automotive, aerospace, and fitness industries.
  • Translate client concepts into detailed electrical schematics and PCB designs.
  • Perform circuit analysis, calculations, and simulations to validate designs.
  • Select and source electronic components; create and manage Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Support prototype builds, including hands-on assembly, debugging, and testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, firmware, UX/UI, mobile app) to integrate complete product solutions.
  • Work with customers to clarify requirements, present design concepts, and provide technical updates.
  • Ensure designs meet ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 standards for quality and compliance.
  • Contribute to in-house low-volume builds when projects are produced internally.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical product design and development.
  • Proven track record of taking at least three products from concept through prototype and testing.
  • Strong skills in analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Hands-on experience building, debugging, and testing prototypes.
  • Ability to perform circuit calculations, component selection, and simulation work.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working directly with customers.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be onsite in Waukegan, IL (this is not a remote role).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in regulated product development (medical devices, automotive, aerospace).
  • Familiarity with IoT-connected devices and mobile app integration.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for low-volume production.
  • Interest in leadership or growth into project management roles.
