Overview
Vanguard Appraisals Inc., a Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based mass appraisal company, is seeking a PC Hardware and Applications Technician for our Cedar Rapids Office. The PC Hardware and Applications Technician will provide technical support for end-user computer systems, encompassing both hardware and software issues. This role involves installing, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing computer hardware and peripherals, as well as troubleshooting and providing technical assistance for a range of software applications. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong problem-solving and communication skills, and is dedicated to ensuring a high level of end-user satisfaction.
Key responsibilities
- Hardware support: Perform hands-on and remote support for desktop and laptop computers, printers, and other peripheral devices. This includes installation, configuration, maintenance, and repair of hardware components such as CPUs, motherboards, RAM, and hard drives.
- Application support: Troubleshoot and resolve issues with standard business software (e.g., MS Office, Microsoft 365), proprietary applications, and operating systems.
- End-user assistance: Provide timely and professional technical support to users via phone, email, and in-person requests, ensuring clear communication and documentation of all issues and resolutions.
- System deployment and maintenance: Configure and deploy new computer systems and software applications according to company standards. Perform regular maintenance, updates, and backups to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Inventory and asset management: Maintain accurate records of all hardware and software assets, including inventory, procurement, deployment, and disposal.
- Documentation and reporting: Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and reports related to hardware configurations, repairs, and recurring issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing PC and laptop hardware.
- Experience with operating systems, including Windows, and standard business software.

- Technical knowledge: A strong understanding of PC architecture, hardware components, operating systems, and network protocols.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
