Moog is recruiting a Senior Lead HW Project Engineer to support our Spaceflight hardware business in Gilbert, AZ. The role focuses on leading electrical systems projects for custom spacecraft avionics, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring delivery to scope, schedule, and cost targets in Moog’s phase-gate process.
What You Will Do
- Serve as lead responsible engineer and technical point of contact to customers on design, development, and production of custom space electronics.
- Provide effective project leadership to cross-functional and cross-site engineering teams for development, qualification, and production programs.
- Manage budget, schedule, risk, and technical execution for development and production projects; actively manage scope creep.
- Derive and manage product requirements from internal and external stakeholders; collaborate with designers to validate concepts through trade studies and analyses; allocate requirements across disciplines and coordinate verification activities.
- Support bid and proposal activities with scope definitions, schedules, technical compliance, and cost estimates; contribute to design discussions for spacecraft computing, power transfer, and command and data handling electronics.
- Author and review engineering analyses and reports; ensure deliverables meet customer specifications and are delivered on time.
- Author test procedures; assist in design verification testing and production hardware testing; read PCBA schematics and use lab equipment to diagnose failures to the component level.
- Lead Failure Review Board and champion RCCA efforts to resolve manufacturing/testing non-conformances.
What We Do
Moog’s Gilbert AZ facility designs spaceflight hardware and is part of the Spacecraft Avionics business unit in the Space & Defense Group. Moog has partnered with NASA to provide electronic solutions for Artemis Orion Crew Capsule, Viper Lunar Rover, Satellite Laser Communications Relay, OSIRIS-REx, and complete satellite buses for the defense department. The Senior Lead HW Project Engineer will coordinate with electrical, mechanical, FPGA, software designers, test engineers, product delivery technicians, specialty design analysts, and other key team members to execute projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (required) or Master of Science (preferred) in Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum of 6–10 years of experience in electronic systems leading EE PCBA design (schematic/layout) and/or embedded microprocessor/FPGA/ASIC design; proven project engineering leadership.
- Experience leading cross-functional project teams and engineering projects involving cost, schedule, risk management, and technical execution through prototyping and manufacturing.
- Experience authoring, managing, deriving, and verifying requirements for complex electronics systems; familiarity with requirement management tools (e.g., IBM Rational DOORS, JAMA Connect, Siemens Polarion).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Self-starter with strong project ownership and ability to work independently; proactive in resolving technical challenges.
- Strong communication skills with internal and external customers; comfortable acting as technical focal point and public speaker.
- Deep understanding of computer architecture and digital interface technologies.
- Experience designing or specifying space-based, radiation-hardened electronic components is highly desired.
- Ability to work onsite and be the primary point of contact during product testing campaigns.
As Sr Lead Hardware Project Engineer, You Will Be Responsible To
- Lead the design, development, and production of custom space electronics as the technical point of contact to customers.
- Provide project leadership to cross-functional and cross-site teams for development/qualification/production programs.
- Manage budget, schedule, risk, and technical execution; actively manage scope creep.
- Manage product requirements from stakeholders, derive design and test requirements, and verify them across the project team to ensure performance, functionality, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate on conceptual design and analyses; allocate requirements to functional disciplines; coordinate verification activities.
- Support bid and proposal activities and contribute to design discussions for spacecraft systems.
- Author and review engineering analyses and reports; ensure timely delivery of project data deliverables.
- Author test procedures; assist in design verification and production testing; interpret PCBA schematics and use laboratory equipment for troubleshooting.
- Resolve non-conformance issues, lead FRB meetings, and drive RCCA efforts.

Salary Range
Phoenix, AZ $110,000.00–$145,000.00 Annually
The base salary range represents the low and high end of Moog’s salary range for this position in the given location. Actual salaries vary by location, experience, and performance. This range is one component of the total compensation package.
This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
