Position Overview

The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day activities and operations of the human resources department to include talent acquisition, development and retention objectives and ensuring best practices in HR management. This individual will perform a variety of duties related to culture training, staff recruitment, employee relations, performance management, policy implementation, benefit and leave of absence administration, employment law compliance, and many other areas of HR responsibility.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manages the payroll function to include setting up all personnel files, recording changes on employee status (e.g., change of address, department transfer, rate increase, termination, etc.).
  • Processes bi-weekly payroll.
  • Conducts recruitment for positions across the credit union, utilizing the recruiting platform in our HRIS. This includes working with managers to create and update job descriptions, posting positions, interviewing applicants, comparing qualifications to job requirements, creating offers, pre-screening, conducting background screenings, and completing employment verifications.
  • Conducts exit interviews, both electronically and in person.
  • Proactively source quality candidates through development of new and existing sourcing options (job boards, social media, networks, employee referrals, etc.), membership in professional organizations, andnetworking and attending sponsored events to connect with and develop candidate interest in existing and future positions.
  • Suggest, plan and/or coordinate creative and innovative recruitment strategies, including but not limited to marketing, communications, professional organizations, and networking events.
  • Assists VP of HR and CHRO with employee relations issues and complaints, including investigations and disciplinary actions.
  • Assists VP of HR and CHRO with the administration of company benefits, including Open Enrollment training, partnering with the HRIS vendor to ensure benefit selections and rates are accurate, and education of all new hires.
  • Leave of Absence Administration (FMLA, ADA, Short-term, Long-Term): interprets and administers leave policies and programs in accordance with applicable employment laws and coordinates administration of all employee leaves.
  • Administers the company’s intranet website (The Intersection), maintains content by updating documentation, policies, and communications.
  • Stays current on employment laws and maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Executes employee engagement activities, conducts culture training with staff, and promotes positive company culture.
  • Maintains and updates HR materials as needed.
  • Provides backup for the Administrative Assistant to include report administration, office supplies, and internal communications.
  • Main point of contact for our HRIS. Responsible for problem solving, employee education, updates, system enhancements, reporting, etc.
  • Leads HR reporting function to deliver standard and ad hoc reports and HR metrics (EEO, turnover information, retention, and applicant tracking).
  • Assists with a variety of projects with differing and moveable timelines while also performing regular day-to-day functions.
  • Partners with VP of HR and CHRO to support prioritizing strategic initiatives.
  • Other job-related duties as requested.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or related area, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the human resources field (generalist or specialist).
  • Knowledge of Federal and local employment law to include, but not limited to: FMLA, EEO, FLSA, Unemployment, and Title VII.
  • Payroll and HRIS experience (Rippling)
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills displaying positive leadership characteristics.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including advanced experience with Microsoft office products such as Word, Excel, Teams, OneNote, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Rippling, PerformancePro, Compease, Indeed, LinkedIn, and/or other HR/HRIS related software.
  • Effective counseling and problem-solving skills.
  • Critical thinking and change management skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and proactively; demonstrates sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Manages ambiguity by operating effectively, even when things are not certain, or the way forward is not clear.
  • Must have excellent organization and prioritization skills and demonstrate initiative and act in a self-directed manner.
  • Ability to effectively interface and collaborate with leaders as well as frontline employees.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle to feel; and reach with hands and arms.
