Compensation: $65,000 - $72,000 annually ($31.25 - $34.62 per hour)
Location: Hybrid in Los Angeles, CA (90025) ( in-office Monday to Thursday, remote on Fridays)
Shift: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Our organization is a nonprofit dedicated to filling critical gaps in services for homeless and at-risk veterans in the Greater Los Angeles area. We provide essential support through programs that offer meals, emergency grants, and assistance with basic needs, helping veterans on their journey to independence and ensuring they do not fall through the cracks.
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented HR Generalist to join our team. This role is crucial for managing and executing core HR functions to support our growing organization. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, mission-driven professional with experience in nonprofit HR practices. Reporting to the Director of Operations and Compliance, this role is responsible for overseeing recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, and employee relations. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing new HR policies and procedures to support our team and ensure we meet all county and state requirements.

Key Responsibilities
HR Management & Development
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all HR-related matters.
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures, ensuring they comply with federal, state, and local laws.
- Update and maintain the employee handbook.
- Collaborate with leadership to plan and facilitate staff training and development initiatives.
- Manage the full recruitment cycle for new positions, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and hiring. Your initial focus will be on recruiting two teams of four housing navigators each for a new county program.
- Develop and implement a new, comprehensive onboarding process for all new hires, ensuring all county requirements are met.
- Conduct new hire onboarding and orientation.
- Create and manage a system for tracking onboarding progress and ensuring all required employee file documentation is complete.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records.
- Ensure compliance with all employment laws and organizational policies.
- Support payroll processing in collaboration with finance staff.
- Administer employee benefits programs, manage open enrollment, and serve as the liaison with benefits providers.
- Track and manage employee leave requests (e.g., PTO, CFRA, FMLA).
Required Skills & Experience
- Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in an HR role.
- Strong knowledge of California labor laws and HR compliance standards.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization, particularly a small to mid-sized one.
- Experience or exposure to working with veteran-related programs or communities.
