Overview
EnProVera has a vacancy for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant III supporting the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This role will support the Legal Forfeiture unit and the mission to apply asset forfeiture in federal investigations.
Responsibilities
- Manage forfeiture cases for the team.
- Conduct legal reviews of forfeiture cases and draft memoranda addressing legal issues.
- Perform administrative duties for the assigned team and other unit members.
- A legal writing sample may be requested.
- Assist attorneys in reviewing case material, gathering and analyzing materials, and preparing digests of selected decisions/opinions with legal references. May provide Legal Clerk/Paralegal II review.
- Receive, examine, and evaluate new and complex cases with reference to facts and established standards.
- Assist in determining probable cause by reviewing investigative reports, identifying needed evidence, and planning a comprehensive approach to obtaining information and evidence; advise attorneys on strengths, weaknesses, and defenses related to probable cause.
- Investigate facts and laws of cases, search public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action using legal research tools and databases; interview federal agents and other law enforcement officers regarding probable cause, evidence, and witnesses.
- Assist in pretrial preparations by organizing discovery, preparing summaries, notifying and interviewing witnesses, and managing witnesses.
- Assist in settlement processes and prepare documents for settlement or disposition as appropriate.
- Prepare legal pleadings, motions, papers, and proposed orders.
- Organize and manage files, documents, and indexing exhibits.
- Summarize documents and proceedings, including depositions, interrogatories, and testimony to support attorneys.
- Use databases and programs to extract data for reports, charts, graphs, and trial exhibits.
- Provide training to other personnel as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
NOTE: Applicants with an Active TS Clearance preferred
Requirements
- Paralegal certificate with at least one year of paralegal/legal assistance experience; or high school diploma/GED with at least three years of paralegal experience
- One year of automated litigation support experience with knowledge of the capabilities and use of automated resources for federal cases
- Knowledge of forfeiture law, policies, procedures, and trial experience preferred
- Knowledge of legal research and analysis to perform case development and documentation assignments
- Excellent oral and written communication, including legal writing skills
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office and other software applications, including databases
- Proven commitment to provide excellent customer service; positive, flexible, and able to multi-task
- Ability to work in a team environment, deliver high-quality work, and maintain professionalism under pressure
This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
Note: The 20% pay differential is dependent upon the customer’s order for services and requires an Active Top-Secret security clearance.
