Working Location: Norfolk Naval Shipyard

The Janitor cleans and keeps in an orderly condition all assigned spaces. Duties involve a combination of the following: sweeping, mopping or scrubbing and polishing floors; removing trash and other refuse; dusting equipment furniture or fixtures; polishing metal fixtures or trimmings; providing supplies and minor maintenance services; and cleaning lavatories, showers and restrooms (WDR Summary 11150). All position objectives are in accordance with Didlake’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and keeps in an orderly condition working areas and washrooms of an office, commercial, or other establishment.
  • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors using brooms, mops, and powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies using a vacuum cleaner.
  • Dusts furniture and equipment.
  • Polishes metalwork such as fixtures and fittings.
  • Washes walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
  • Washes windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Empties wastebaskets and cleans ashtrays.
  • Transports trash, waste, and other refuse to disposal area.
  • Cleans restroom fixtures, floors, and walls, and replenishes supplies.
  • Works with a positive team spirit and produces quality work.
  • Follows safety standards and guidelines in the proper use of equipment and other activities.
  • Reports maintenance issues and/or damage noticed in the assigned work area or equipment to the immediate supervisor.
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment from the Supervisor.
  • Completes and maintains all Didlake required trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned or as stated in the Statement of Work (SOW).

Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma/GED or six (6) months custodial experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Possess the ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate credentials/background check as required by contract.
  • Ability to carry out simple but detailed oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to interact effectively with co-workers with disabilities.
