Eligibility

This position is on a federal AbilityOne contract that requires that most of the work hours are performed by employees with disabilities. Due to program requirements, this particular position needs to be filled by a person with a disability.

Position Summary

Under close supervision, performs general custodial services in customer locations or other assigned areas, including cleaning and detailing conference rooms, offices, cafeterias, and other facilities. Uses proper materials and methods to assure facilities are clean and free of safety hazards. Requires knowledge of custodial practices, equipment, supplies, and the ability to perform quality work safely.

Typical Duties

• Performs cleaning services using proper equipment and supplies, following procedures for safe use.
• Cleans facilities, restrooms, common areas, cafeterias.
• Removes trash and replaces plastic bags.
• Dusts and polishes equipment, furniture, or fixtures.
• Cleans tables and microwaves.
• Vacuums carpets, sweeps, mops, and deodorizes floors.
• Cleans walls, arranges furniture, and cleans window blinds.
• Uses correct chemicals, fills dispensers, and maintains safety and quality of work.
• Responds to customer requests or refers to supervisor as needed.
• Cleans spills promptly and maintains custodial equipment for safe operation.
• May wax and buff floors and operate equipment such as a cardboard bailer; may monitor inventory and supplies.
• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• 0 to 1 year of work experience, preferably in custodial services.
• Ability to follow instructions on labels for safe use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to follow structured procedures and to learn equipment used in custodial services (e.g., scrubbers and buffers).
• Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions from customers; identify and report needs.
• Human relations skills to build effective working relationships.
• Availability to work evenings; flexible schedule as needed.
• Ability to manage and track materials and time; adapt to changing priorities.
• Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to perform the following physical demands for extended periods, with or without assistance:

• Maneuvering in and around the worksite; standing and walking
• Bending, kneeling, reaching, and stooping
• Lifting up to 35 pounds, up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Pushing or pulling objects such as vacuums and carts; may require up to 70 pounds
• Grasping both small and large objects; climbing ladders/step stools

Work Environment

Work is performed in an office environment or at customer locations (e.g., courthouses, government facilities, or other sites). May be exposed to toxic chemicals, noise, and varying indoor/outdoor conditions, including heat or cold.
