The Lead Worker- Janitor is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of subordinate staff in the maintenance of the DOE contract. Plan, assign, and direct work to be done in accordance with contract requirements, Didlake policies, and procedures, and applicable laws.
The position is considered essential personnel with the ability to respond to work in a timely manner as determined by contract needs and all inclement weather events. Accepting a position that is considered Essential Personnel means you must come to work as determined by contract needs during times when other employees are not required to do so.
Organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates assigned staff in the following tasks:
- Cleaning hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevator banks, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
- Cleaning floors using brooms, mops, and powered scrubbing and waxing machines
- Polishing metalwork such as fixtures and fittings.
- Washing windows, door panels, and sills.
- Emptying wastebaskets.
- Replenishing bathroom supplies and floor supplies
- Setting an example through dependability, hard work, strong business ethics, and personal appearance.
- Assigns tasks and issues supplies and equipment to staff and inspects complete work for conformance to standards.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment from the Project Manager.
- Trains employees in how to do assigned work and in using equipment and supplies appropriately.
- Addresses complaints and resolves problems of employees and customers; refers to supervisor as necessary.
- May fill in for general cleaning staff as needed.
- Operates power equipment such as two-stage snow blowers and a john Deere skid-loader/snowplow.
- Responsible for fostering a positive team spirit and producing quality work.
- Responsible for appropriate conduct and/or demeanor as dictated by Didlake policy and procedure.
- Completes required paperwork and/or documentation.
- Acts as a good steward of employer and government resources.
- Responsible for following safety standards and guidelines in the proper use of the equipment and other activities.
- During inclement weather, provide proper upkeep by removing snow from walkways, building entrances, dock ramps, and spreading snow/ice melting chemicals.
- Completes and maintains all required Didlake training.

QualificationsEducation:
- HS diploma/GED or any combination of experience/education to equal graduation from the 12th grade, and 1 year recent, relevant experience in commercial custodial or maintenance services; prior supervisory experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Possess the ability to pass and hold a security clearance background check.
- Some knowledge of equipment and chemicals used, i.e. scrubbers, Billy Goat Blowers, vacuums, snowblowers, and EZ-Go.
- Must have verbal and written communication adequate to read simple instructions, recognize the difference between words and numbers, print and speak simple sentences.
- Ability to remind and train staff of standard operating procedures and safe operation of equipment.
- Ability to apply good judgment in fulfilling responsibilities.
- Ability to interact effectively and positively with employees with disabilities required.
- Some knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment is required.
- Must possess and demonstrate high initiative, adaptability, reliability, flexibility, and convey a positive team member attitude.
