Responsibilities (Duties and Responsibilities)

• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
• Select equipment and plan layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques
• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
• Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
• May operate fabrication equipment such as CNC torch, CNC anglematic, CNC fabripunch, and other component production equipment
• Weld using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys, separately or in combination
• Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
• Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
• Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or metal types and thicknesses
• Clean laser beds and assist the operators and shop as needed

Qualifications

• 2+ years of welding experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
• Proficiency with MIG, TIG, laser welding; Stick welding a plus
• Strong understanding of weld symbols, blueprints, and measuring tools

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required (welding certification)

Pay Range

$24.00 - $35.00 per hour
