What You Will Do

• Perform routine hand fusion welding, electron beam welding and associated metal joining processes in a development or overhaul setting where specific methods and tooling are available.
• Follow detailed directions from a leader or supervisor to carry out development, repair and restoration projects for engine parts and tools; lay out work requirements and obtain needed equipment.
• Perform standard hand and machine welding operations to fabricate or restore parts and tools where tight tolerances are not normally required.
• Utilize a black light process to determine the extent of repairs required.
• Build up finished machined surfaces and repair simple cracks and other routine imperfections.
• Use fixed and variable measuring instruments to check dimensions and record results.
• Recognize when repair or replacement of equipment is necessary and arrange accordingly.
• Perform routine servicing in the assigned area following specified procedures and written instructions such as operator checklists.
• Assist others responsible for new process trials and other specialized assignments within the scope of this job.
• May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications within the assigned area.

Qualifications You Must Have

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Knowledge of hand and machine welding practices including fit-up techniques for fabrication of weldments. Understanding of fundamental principles of electron beam and laser theory. Ability to work from complicated drawings and specifications, use optical alignment equipment, and a variety of precision measuring instruments. Equivalent to 2 - 3 years of trades training.
