The Director of Learning and Development, Restaurants is an integral part of developing a leading and learning culture at Momofuku Restaurants. This role works in tandem with Operations and Human Resources to identify needs, develop and launch effective learning & development strategies and programs.

The Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of employee training, development, and performance improvement within the restaurants. This leadership role involves designing and implementing comprehensive learning strategies, programs, and initiatives to enhance employee skills, knowledge, and performance. This role works closely with the Director of HR, East Coast to provide input, structure & oversight to Momofuku’s developmental plans and is an integral part of developing the leading, diverse, equitable, learning, and inclusive culture Momofuku strives for. This role will partner closely with Leadership, Operations, HR, and Restaurant Management teams to identify needs, and develop and launch effective development and culture strategies and programs.

Compensation: $120,000 a year

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate, anticipate, and meet evolving and ongoing employee and organizational development in the restaurants.
  • In partnership with Operations, HR, and Senior Leadership, identify needs, and create and execute restaurant learning strategies and programs that align with business goals.
  • Create communication and launch plans for all new restaurant learning and development initiatives to ensure effective roll out.
  • Implement various learning methods for company restaurants (e.g. online training, virtual training, in-person training, coaching, peer-to-peer & mentoring groups, etc.).
  • In partnership with Human Resources, support the development and execution of any performance management and leadership materials and programs including but not limited to development pathways, succession planning, review processes and coaching for restaurant teams.
  • In partnership with HR and Operations, assist in the development and execution of all restaurants training SOPs and SOP materials.
  • In collaboration with HR, monitor and review effectiveness of development programs and learning strategies. Use engagement surveys, KPI’s and stakeholder consultations to understand effectiveness and areas for improvement.
  • In partnership with Human Resources, Operations and Restaurant leadership create yearly training calendars for the restaurants.
  • In collaboration with the Culture and Development and Operations, implement, facilitate, and drive company culture by researching and building programs & initiatives including but not limited to safety, perks, volunteer opportunities, networking & mentoring activities, positive reinforcement & rewards, Town Hall content, etc.
  • In collaboration with Culture and Development, work with Restaurant leaders to improve the company & location specific culture that employees and candidates for hire experience.
  • Conduct regular formal and informal data analysis to glean insight into the need for and effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the Culture and Development department, create, coordinate and manage Momofuku’s social & team building activities.
  • Routinely visit all restaurant locations to evaluate and ensure development and training programs are being followed and adjust where needed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 4+ years of restaurant management experience required; (mixture of FOH/BEV strongly preferred).
  • Bachelor’s in Business, Organizational Behavior, Communications, Instructional Design, Human Resource Development or equivalent combination of experience, education and/or certifications in a variety of L&D areas.
  • Possess expertise in Learning & Development, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, and related fields.
  • Experience with managing a learning management system.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, be proactive in anticipating issues & needs, and make appropriate judgment calls.
  • Clear understanding of career path and succession plan mapping.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and team-based project management experience.
  • Computer literacy & proficiency in Microsoft Office & Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of the following systems strongly preferred: Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Windows Operating Systems, Resy, SevenRooms, Avero, Toast, Ultipro, Compeat.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent food and beverage product knowledge; actively stays up to date with trends, changes and innovation as it relates to F&B and restaurant operations.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of restaurant management experience required; (mixture of FOH/BEV strongly preferred).
  • 4+ Previous experience managing a team of trainers.
  • 4+ years of experience in performance management and coaching techniques.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow, actively seeks feedback from all levels/departments.
  • Strong team-building and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop professional relationships with diverse staff across departments and levels.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, for 4 to 8 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours.
