Job Description
Mission
In accordance with PCC procedures, local, state, and federal regulations, to effectively and efficiently treat all waste water to ensure that prohibited materials do not enter the sewer system.
Principal Accountabilities
- 1. LSA Materials Receiving, Preliminary Inspection and In-Process Storage.
Objective: receive and/or collect drummed LSA materials from Investing, Effluent Filtration, Cleaning departments and determine if acceptable for processing.
- 2. Correcting/Diagnosing System Failures.
Objective: to ensure the safe and effective processing of waste water through the constant monitoring of electrical, chemical, and mechanical processes.
Essential Job Functions:
- 3. Operation of the Effluent Filtration Process.
Objective: to process waste waters through the filtration process.
- 4. Maintain Supplies and Equipment.
Objective: to maintain equipment in good working order and to maintain a safe, clean work environment.
- 6. Process and Shipment of Drummed Non-Hazardous Waste to Regulated Landfill Waste Sites.
Objective: receive, process, inspect and dispose of solid NON-RAD waste.
- 7. Neutralization of Acids and Caustics.
Objective: receive, neutralize, and dispose of acid and caustic liquids and sludges in accordance with PCC procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
- 8. Process and Dispose of Miscellaneous Drummed Waste Materials.
Objective: process, inspect and dispose of materials.
- 9. Processing of Binder #5 Alcohol Waste (RAD and Hazardous Waste).
Essential Job Functions: label, dispose and prepare alcohol for shipment.
- 10. Support Operations.
Objective: to perform support operations in the Waste Management Operation.
- 11. Preventive Maintenance.
Objective: to maintain equipment in good working order and to maintain a safe, clean work environment.
- 12. Safety.
Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate good housekeeping and safe work practices. Note: respiratory protection may be required; see notes under Safety.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot system problems and perform preventive maintenance on instruments and equipment, with or without classroom training.
- Working knowledge of industrial chemicals with experience in hazardous communications and radioactive handling procedures or equivalent.
- Training in science and chemistry preferred; familiarity with computers and printers is a plus.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and to read, follow, and interpret complex written instructions with high accuracy.
- Proven ability to interact with personnel at all levels and maintain composure in emergencies.
- Ability to work independently with good judgment for extended periods.
- Proven organizational and record-keeping skills; physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds and to use protective equipment.
Training
- On-the-job training; Hazardous Materials Safety and Confined Space entry training; Radioactive Materials Handling training; Department SOPs; Hazardous Waste Management training may be required.
