Job Summary
This position is responsible for the review, evaluation, and approval of customer and internal waste profiles to ensure strict adherence to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental compliance at company facilities. Serving as a subject matter expert, the role provides technical guidance to sales and account management teams to support client satisfaction while mitigating operational and regulatory risks. The incumbent ensures accurate and comprehensive data entry to support required regulatory reporting and assigns appropriate PPE and handling protocols for approved waste streams to protect personnel and maintain a safe working environment. This role requires the ability to interpret complex regulatory frameworks, exercise sound professional judgment, and collaborate across departments to uphold the organization’s compliance and safety objectives.
Job Duties
- Oversee and approve new and renewal waste profiles submitted by clients, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, as well as internal compliance and safety standards.
- Validate generator registrations, EPA/state waste coding, physical and chemical characteristics, proper shipping descriptions, and adherence to air and safety programs (e.g., Benzene NESHAPS, Risk Management Planning, Process Safety Management) and Land Disposal Restriction notifications.
- Evaluate and interpret documentation such as SDSs and TDSs to identify safety and compliance concerns, conducting advanced research to determine additional regulatory or operational requirements.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to Account Managers on complex profiling, sampling, and waste receipt matters, serving as the primary compliance resource for resolution of technical issues.
- Exercise final approval authority for waste profiles, establishing safety protocols and environmental handling requirements to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal risk management policies.
- Oversee and validate the entry of chemical component data into the facility tracking system, ensuring accuracy and completeness based on profiles, analytical results, and SDS documentation.
- Manage and maintain generator records within the facility database, ensuring accurate, up-to-date compliance documentation to support operational and regulatory needs.
- Lead the review and approval of profile modifications, determining appropriate resolutions for discrepancies, process changes, or other customer-driven updates while mitigating compliance risk.
- Support broader compliance initiatives by participating in the review and qualification of transporters and contractors, ensuring adherence to facility and regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor\'s in Chemistry or Bachelor\'s in a technical field with a significant chemistry background
- Minimum of 5 years of experience
- Required background in RCRA hazardous and industrial waste as well as knowledge in environmental issues such as air programs.
- Competency in TCEQ waste regulations a plus
- Strong computer processing skills especially proficient in editing Adobe PDF and Microsoft Applications
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess a variety of situations that could require changes to profiles, processes and/or safety equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in documentation and record management.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
