ABOUT THE POSITION
- Leads, oversees, coordinates, and participates in a variety of maintenance and repair operations for vehicle repairs, construction projects, solid waste routes, annual cleanup campaigns, special facility setup, parks and playgrounds, landscape maintenance activities, and other assigned projects for the City of San Luis.
- Plans project work and orders supplies, materials, and necessary equipment required for project completion.
- Coordinates work assignments with other work units, agencies, or contractors to minimize service disruptions.
- Receives, inspects, and inventories supplies and equipment and coordinates the repair and/or replacement of defective equipment.
- Ensures security of all departmental tools, equipment, and materials.
- Performs daily control reviews, monitors productivity, and enforces safety practices and procedures.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates staff; gives instructions; monitors employee attendance; enforces discipline, reviews performance; and maintains employee records.
- Ensures the safety and security of departmental employees and the general public.
- May participate in departmental budget preparation and monitor expenses.
- May obtains bids, requests funds, and participates in selecting tools, equipment, and supplies required for solid waste routes collection and annual cleanup campaign.
- Advises supervisor of issues and recommends solutions.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and interact with the public.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate employees and schedule work assignments and activities.
- Follow safe work practices and verbal and written instructions.
- Perform heavy equipment maintenance and identify unsafe conditions and mechanical problems.
- Schedule, direct, and participate in solid waste collection tasks, which may require heavy lifting;
- Operate and maintain various tools, equipment, materials, and commercial vehicles.
- Inspect and evaluate solid waste collection activities.
- Principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation.
- Project management and scheduling techniques.
- State and Federal laws and regulations governing solid waste and emergency response.
- Safe work practices and occupational hazards.
- OSHA guidelines relating to wastewater.
- Tools/equipment/materials used in maintenance activities, including solid waste collection.
- Operation, maintenance, and repair of various tools, equipment, materials, and vehicles.
- Sanitary standards/regulations and safety procedures.
- Principles and practices of budget preparation and monitoring expenditures.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) years of full-time solid waste collection, solid waste equipment maintenance and operation, annual cleanup campaign, or related work.
- A valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License – B is required at the appointment time.
- A Commercial Driver's License - Class A license must be obtained within six months of appointment and maintained throughout employment.
- Residency within 25 miles of San Luis and within the US is required.
- Bilingual in Spanish
