We are currently looking for an Overnight CDL Driver to operate out of our Jersey City Depot (264 Broadway, Jersey City, NJ 07306). You will be responsible for servicing routes in NYC, reporting to the Site Manager and supported by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. This is a full-time, union, hourly position with an overnight schedule starting between 7 PM and 9 PM. Be prepared for shifts lasting from 10 to 12 hours until the route is complete.

As an Overnight CDL Driver, you will work alongside a Helper, primarily operating a rear-loading truck for the collection of waste or recyclable materials. Your role will involve transporting materials to various disposal and recycling facilities, making multiple trips throughout your shift.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely operate the truck while adhering to safety standards, OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of your assigned vehicle using the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR); document any issues for review and repair.
• Ensure that the container and its contents remain secure throughout your route.
• Monitor safety and report any issues with equipment to your Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
• Maintain effective communication with customers and Dispatch, addressing complaints and concerns professionally.
• Attend training sessions and mandatory safety meetings regularly.
• Keep your work area clean and safe in line with corporate and OSHA standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Valid Class A or B CDL with a clean driving record is required.
• At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL A or B in the last 7 years, with preference given to those with refuse company experience.
• Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and relevant traffic regulations.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English to communicate effectively.
• Ability to read and understand maps.
• Must meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to mount and dismount the truck multiple times during a route.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to physically engage with the truck throughout the day.
