The Hazardous Waste Manager will oversee all aspects of hazardous waste operations at ARC. This role requires ensuring compliance with all applicable hazardous waste regulations, managing permits, maintaining comprehensive records and reports, conducting waste sampling and inspections, coordinating waste handling and disposal activities, and developing contingency and waste management plans. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with Center personnel, routinely access ARC facilities, and provide expert guidance to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient hazardous waste management.
Responsibilities include managing hazardous waste facilities in compliance with Large Quantity Generator (LQG) regulations and other relevant statutes; coordinating directly with Center personnel and ensuring routine access to ARC facilities for operational needs; maintaining and updating waste management and disposal records using government-provided databases; preparing and submitting annual hazardous waste generator fee returns, hazardous waste reports, EPA ID verification questionnaires, PCB inventory logs, pesticide usage reports, asbestos notifications, and other required regulatory reports; and developing, maintaining, and updating hazardous waste contingency plans and site-specific contingency plans.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. An ideal candidate would be familiar with the following: knowledge of federal environmental regulations relevant to hazardous and solid waste management; working knowledge of hazardous and solid waste management, and Occupations Safety Health Administration Hazard Communication Standard found in 29 CFR 1910; current 40-hr HAZWOPER (40 CFR 2626.17, 29 CFR 1910.120, 8 CCR Section 5192) certification; current RCRA (40 CFR 262.17, 22 CCR 66262.17) training; current DOT Training (49 CFR 172.704); current forklift operator certification; must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive on client sites; and must be detail oriented to properly document field sampling activities, package samples for shipment, and complete chain of custody documents.
This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on. This position requires the successful candidate to obtain a NASA PIV.
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering or science is required, with a minimum of four college-level courses in chemistry. A minimum of eight years of direct experience is required. Must be a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM); otherwise 10 years of direct experience is required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
