Job Details
- Title: Accounting Manager
- Salary: $95,000 - $110,000 per year with Excellent benefits
- Reports to: Director of Finance
- Status: Full-Time, Exempt
- Location: In-person at the Richmond District, San Francisco
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including payroll processing, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general ledger maintenance.
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll, including benefits, deductions, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Review and approve reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial transactions.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Analyze financial statements, variances, and KPIs to provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Prepare financial statements for board meetings, audits, and external reporting requirements.
- Assist in developing annual budgets, program budgets, and grant budgets and revisions; monitor budget performance and ensure compliance with financial plans.
- Provide financial analysis and projections to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Assist in preparation and coordination of annual audits; ensure compliance with tax regulations, grant requirements, and internal policies.
- Oversee annual tax filings and required reports (including 1099 series, 1096, 1095-C, 1094-C, etc.).
- Develop, implement, and enhance internal controls to improve efficiency, accuracy, and financial integrity.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting functions and reporting.
- Maintain and update financial policies and procedures for consistency and compliance.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff; provide training, guidance, and performance evaluations.
- Foster collaboration and accountability within the accounting department; align objectives with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance and program managers to provide financial insights and support grant/contract management.
- Participate in cross-functional projects impacting financial health and sustainability.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience in non-profit accounting.
- 8+ years of progressive financial experience; 6+ years in a managerial or supervisory role in nonprofit accounting/finance.
- Highly detail-oriented, well-organized, with excellent written and oral communication and strong financial presentation skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is a plus.
- Ability to analyze and handle complex financial situations; ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality.
- Experience in financial process improvement, internal controls, and risk management.
- Ability to collaborate with senior leadership, program managers, and external stakeholders on financial planning and decision-making.
- Strong knowledge of financial planning, forecasting, and strategic financial analysis.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local compliance requirements related to nonprofit accounting and grant management.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with competing priorities.
