About the Role

The Accounting Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the financial operations within the agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting industry by ensuring accurate and timely processing of accounting transactions. This position is responsible for maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, and assisting with cost accounting to provide clear insights into the organization's financial health. The role requires close collaboration with the accounting team to manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring all transactions comply with company policies and regulatory standards. By efficiently handling bank reconciliations and general accounting tasks, the Accounting Assistant helps maintain the integrity of financial data and supports the preparation of financial reports. Ultimately, this position contributes to the smooth financial functioning of the organization, enabling informed decision-making and operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience with bank reconciliation, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Basic understanding of general accounting principles and cost accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the agriculture, forestry, fishing, or hunting industry.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and other accounting software tools.
  • Additional coursework or certification in accounting or finance (e.g., CPA, CMA).
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy between bank statements and company records.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions promptly and accurately.
  • Maintain and update general ledger accounts and assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Support cost accounting activities by tracking and analyzing expenses related to agricultural operations.
  • Utilize QuickBooks software to record financial transactions and generate reports as needed.
  • Assist in account reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare documentation and support audits by providing necessary financial information.

Skills

The required skills include bank reconciliation, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, with proficiency in QuickBooks to manage financial data, generate reports, and support audits. General accounting knowledge is applied to maintain the ledger integrity and assist with month-end and year-end closings. Cost accounting skills help analyze expenses related to agricultural operations and support cost control and profitability. Preferred skills include advanced software proficiency and industry-specific knowledge for handling complex financial scenarios.

In-office Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. If month-end falls on a Saturday, a few hours of work are required.
