Overview
Director, Accounting at Hoshizaki America. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance and collaborates with multiple business partners. The Director of Accounting is responsible for the company\'s financial policies, accounting practices, relationships with internal and external auditors, maintenance of fiscal records, and preparation of financial reports. This role ensures compliance with US GAAP and J-SOX, interprets and implements technical accounting policies, and oversees technical accounting areas such as leases, MIP/LTIP compensation, software development capitalization, product liability, and workers\' compensation. The Director will work with stakeholders, functions within the enterprise, and third-party specialists to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial numbers. The role also coordinates risk management, manages the accounting function, and collaborates with Hoshizaki Japan Treasury on reporting, monitoring, and risk management. Interaction with Hoshizaki Japan\'s finance function includes reviewing and analyzing consolidated financial results and implementing improvements as required. The role coordinates with external auditors and supports special projects as needed. The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls to safeguard company assets.

Major Accountability
- Ensure company financial records under their responsibility comply with company policies, US GAAP, and J-SOX reporting. Review monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and related documents to ensure compliance.
- Implement technical accounting guidance and ensure accounting positions/processes are appropriate, well thought out, and aligned with the established framework.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance transparency, reduce manual effort, and standardize performance.
- Oversee treasury functions, including debt management, investments, and banking relationships.
- Direct oversight of highly complex and/or subjective technical accounting areas.
- Provide financial insights and support for key business decisions, including investments, acquisitions, and new ventures.
Essential Functions
- Maintain the company\'s system of accounts and keep books and records for all activity, including monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting. Own and direct accounting processes.
- Ensure balance sheet integrity and cross-functional optimization of working capital management.
- Manage financial resources effectively, maintain liquidity, minimize risk, and optimize capital usage.
- Manage internal and external audits and strengthen the company\'s internal control environment, with direct involvement at manufacturing facilities and support for other units/regions.
- Maintain written policies, procedures, work instructions, and controls for accounting activities under this role\'s direction.
- Drive continuous improvement of financial processes and supporting information systems.
- Act as a change agent to identify opportunities and implement process efficiencies that improve operations and results.
- Ensure the accounting department is staffed with qualified personnel and support their ongoing development.
- Coordinate work related to internal and external audits in periodic reviews of financial records.
- Ensure ERP functionality meets accounting requirements; assess and validate suggested changes as needed.
- Lead and/or prepare other special projects and analyses as required.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor\'s degree in finance, accounting, or business (or equivalent experience) with strong knowledge of US GAAP, treasury, tax, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Proven ability to form, lead, and develop high-performing teams.
- Ability to collaborate across departmental functions and multi-national teams.
- Experience analyzing business performance and developing financial plans within a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills are required.
- 10+ years of management experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and process rigor with a sense of urgency.
- Problem-solving, change management, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong time management and ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Experience communicating with company executives, including Sales executives.
Knowledge & Skills
- ERP experience – Microsoft Dynamics / D365
- Sound judgment in decision making
- Excellent interpersonal skills and positive approach to conflict
- Efficient time management and organizational skills
- Technical proficiency in MS Office
- Ability to travel up to 20%
Physical Requirements
- Non-manufacturing: typically office environment with low to moderate noise
