Position Title: Accounting Manager
FLSA Classification:Exempt, Full-Time
Pay Rate:$85,000-$90,000

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Accounting Manager is responsible for performing a variety of accounting-related functions, including monthly account reconciliations, monthly journal entry processing, accounts payable processing, payroll processing, budgeting, grant support, and audit support.

Job Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting and Payroll

  • Review and approve biweekly payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Review accounts payable processing and oversee check generation weekly
  • Review and approve journal entries and supporting documentation, and verify proper balances
  • Reconciles membership, contribution, and pledge data between the POS system and accounting systems monthly
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts during month-end close, investigate discrepancies, and prepare adjustments as needed
  • Maintain the general ledger and project codes
  • Lead the preparation, review, and internal distribution of monthly financial statements.
  • Prepare and deliver both standard and custom reports from accounting systems to internal management
  • Manages the procurement/purchasing card system
  • Manages fixed asset accounting
  • Manages the annual budgeting process by compiling departmental data in Excel, entering budget details into accounting software, and ensuring data is accurately captured for reporting.
  • Coordinate audit responsibilities, including the preparation of schedules and support documentation.
  • Build and manage grant budgets while ensuring financial compliance
  • Prepare grant reporting

Systems Support

  • Manages software upgrades and implementations related to accounting
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to analyze data and situations and solve problems; excellent decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of accounting principles for nonprofit accounting
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, perform under pressure, and the ability to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience is required
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Strong skills in working with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint; Knowledge of MIP is a plus

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
  • Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted) and 50 pounds assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity.
  • Some repetitive motion is involved.
