Overview
Juno Search Partners has exclusively partnered with The Academy to help find their next Controller. The Academy provides therapeutic and educational support services to youth with emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges across Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, Chester, Lancaster, Lebanon, and Luzerne Counties. They specialize in community-based programs designed to help children and adolescents succeed in school, home, and community settings. The Controller will be the first in this role, leading and professionalizing the accounting and finance function. This is a hands-on leadership role that will own the monthly close process, manage day-to-day financial operations, and enhance the organization’s systems, controls, and reporting capabilities. The Controller will work closely with the CEO to bring greater financial visibility and rigor to support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the accounting function, including the monthly close process, journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
- Evaluate current accounting processes and systems, recommending and implementing improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Manage cash activity and forecasting, including weekly cash flow updates and reporting.
- Develop financial dashboards and internal reporting tools to provide leadership with better visibility into program performance, cash flow, and key metrics.
- Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related reporting.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Support the CEO with ad hoc financial analysis, scenario planning, and strategic initiatives.
- Coordinate audit preparation and support the production of year-end workpapers.
- Oversee external accounting relationships (e.g., tax preparers, auditors, consultants).
- Serve as a resource for cross-functional leaders by translating financial insights into operational impact.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience; prior experience in a growing services organization is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience owning the close process and producing accurate financial statements.
- Strong systems thinker with the ability to assess and improve accounting operations.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with payroll processes is highly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach and the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Self-starter comfortable operating in a lean, fast-moving environment.
