Chattanooga Zoo is a nonprofit organization looking for an Accounting Manager to add to its Administrative Team. The Accounting Manager will be directly responsible for maintaining all financials for the Zoo to include preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports. This role will be directly responsible for general ledger, AP and AR as well as maintaining the accuracy of the ledger classifications. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing monthly journal entries substantiated by detailed documentation
  • Supporting year-end close process by assisting third-party auditor
  • Preparing and file all city and county business taxes
  • Leading the annual budget process
  • Maintaining detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts
  • Processing prepaids and accruals
  • Reconciling employee benefits billings against payroll deductions
  • Supporting annual worker's compensation audit
  • Supervising collection of COIs and W-9s, and process 1099s at year end
  • Overseeing AP, AR and Payroll
  • Supervising employee-related benefits including insurance, retirement and flex programs
  • Interfacing with banks, insurance agents, auditors and credit card companies on Zoo's behalf
  • Ensuring compliance with all Secretary of State filings
  • Managing accounting staff to include annual performance reviews
  • Maintaining Sage 50 accounting software records in accordance with policies

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, finance or related field
  • Four (4) years experience in accounting
  • Any combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered
  • Solid comprehension of GAAP
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, technical, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Sage 50 accounting software
  • Experience in an AZA accredited institution
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles

Physical Requirements:

  • This position routinely requires lifting and holding moderately light objects (up to 20 lbs.)
  • This position requires sitting for the majority of the work day at a computer
