The City of Richmond, Office of the City Attorney is seeking to fill the position of Legal Secretary for its Human Services Division. Responsibilities will include providing office support and assistance to attorneys who represent the Richmond Department of Social Services, Department of Parks and Recreation and Department of Justice Services. The person in this position may be assigned other responsibilities as needed. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage numerous assignments simultaneously and independently.
Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates with previous legal experience are preferable, but not required.
This position is Unclassified and serves at the will of the City Attorney.

Responsibilities
- Maintaining, organizing, managing paper and electronic files
- Preparing and filing documents with the courts
- Managing attorneys’ calendars
- Use of a case management system
- Microsoft Office and other computer programs as needed
- Excellent oral communication and writing skills are essential
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Prior experience in juvenile and domestic relations court (typical; assignments may vary)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong ability to support multiple attorneys
- Strong ability to communicate with various internal and external departments
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Considerable knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite
Minimum Training and Experience
- High school diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Six months of relevant clerical experience
Licensing, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements
- Compliance with additional requirements that may be established by the City of Richmond
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
