Responsibilities

  • Oversee attendance records, schoolwide communications, substitute teacher staffing, customer service support, and related administrative tasks.
  • Communicate updates, events, and announcements with the entire building community through letters, phone calls, and other mediums.
  • Maintain attendance and personnel files for the building community.
  • Handle confidential information and materials with discretion.
  • Utilize customer service skills when communicating with school visitors, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Schedule meetings as needed for building leaders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Lansing School District mission.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with secretarial, business, or commercial coursework preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, filing systems, equipment/computers, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, punctuation, and spelling; ability to compose business letters, minutes, reports, charts, and numerical/tabular materials.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Diplomacy, discretion, and judgment in handling information and referring callers.
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 WPM; must pass secretarial skills test.
  • Previous secretarial experience preferred.
  • Professional phone etiquette.

Compensation and Schedule

$14 - $14 per hour

This is a Substitute Secretary Position.
