ATTORNEY GENERAL (DEPT OF LAW) LEGAL SECRETARY I Job Location: Address: Various

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office, Child and Family Protection Division/ Protective Services Section is seeking a Legal Secretary I to provide secretarial support for one or more assistant attorneys general, including preparation of all legal pleadings and documents necessary to process dependency/severance cases on behalf of the client.

Responsibilities

  • Provide entry level secretarial and administrative support for the office, including drafting and typing correspondence and basic pleadings.
  • Answer inquiries from the client, court personnel and others regarding case activity and status.
  • Input data into and use an automated case management system to maintain and track case records and activity.
  • Independently generate legal forms needed in all types of actions.
  • Maintain court calendar and legal deadlines; prepare documents and other projects as assigned, including coordinating case transfers.
  • Monitor several inboxes and distribute information to assigned AAGs and staff.
  • Review, create and process materials and information that are confidential pursuant to federal and state laws.

Remote Options: This position may be eligible for Remote Work two days a week.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Knowledge: Knowledge of word processing equipment and programs, legal terminology, legal forms, court procedures and applicable time-frames; extensive knowledge of Juvenile Court Rules related to dependency, severance and guardianship practice; and general principles and techniques common to a modern law office.
  • Skill: Typing at least 60 WPM; oral and written communication; interpersonal relationships; ability to manage a heavy workload under time pressure with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability: Ability to handle a high volume of work and stressful situations; operate word processor for preparation of legal documents; track and follow through on voluminous court actions in various states; utilize automated case management systems and follow office procedures for maintaining and tracking records; organize, prioritize, and perform varied tasks and track multiple deadlines simultaneously.

  • Travel may be required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.

Retirement

  • Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
