Works under an assigned supervisor to perform legal clerical work requiring specialized knowledge of legal documents and processes, applying established instructions, rules, regulations, precedents, and procedures pertaining to legal activities within the Public Defender Office.

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
- 100% - Four (4) years of experience performing clerical, data entry, or data processing work; AND
- High school diploma or GED; OR
- Three (3) years of experience performing secretarial/clerical duties in a legal environment, and one (1) year of college study (30 semester hours or 36 quarters).
- PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Type motions, orders, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Initiate and compose standardized legal forms routinely needed for specific legal actions.
- Accept service of legal documents, review for correct form and timeliness, annotate case files, and update status records to reflect receipt and due dates for responses or other actions.
- Maintain docket calendars and ticket systems, coordinate schedules with court clerks.
- Set reminders for attorneys regarding court appearances and deadlines for submitting various actions or documents.
- Notify witnesses of appearances and any changes resulting from suspensions or settlements.
- Establish, maintain, and close out case files or systems of legal records, annotate indices and status records, compile workload and status reports, and locate and abstract information from files and records.
- Perform other related duties as required or directed.
KSA's
- Knowledge of legal terminology and operations.
- Thorough knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting.
- Knowledge of office functions and responsibilities and their relation to County Government’s operation.
- Knowledge of office routine and administrative procedures.
- Knowledge of recording dictation and transcribing from notes or recordings involving legal terms.
- Ability to perform a variety of difficult stenographic tasks.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows.
