Shift: Weekends Only (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) 6:45am - 7:15pm
USD $16.77/Hr. Max USD $25.99/Hr.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary communication and information “hub” for the unit, answering telephones and patient call lights and ensuring that appropriate parties receive information in an expeditious manner.
- Enters patient orders into the electronic medical record in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy.
- Performs complex secretarial and receptionist functions including ordering and stocking needed supplies and equipment, filing, copying, and printing patient data reports for the department.
- Patient care tasks may be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Education
- High school graduate or GED required; associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
- Two (2) years secretarial or comparable clerical experience required.
- Medical Office Assistant certificate or one (1) year of business or related college coursework may be considered in lieu of clerical experience.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
- Proficient with personal computers and software (including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Demonstrates initiative, self-direction, motivation, and a proven ability to work successfully.
Responsibilities – Additional
- Communication: Promptly and courteously greets others in a friendly manner; responds to questions and provides direction; facilitates telephone, verbal, written, and electronic communication with nursing staff, physicians, patients, and visitors promptly, accurately, and professionally; uses the Physician Profile to ascertain the correct paging method/number; updates and maintains call light system assignments; utilizes the Patient Tracking system in communicating with the Patient Placement Office.
- Information Processing: Prioritizes stat orders and immediate needs; processes orders accurately; inputs data into the EMR and maintains paper records where not computerized; refers concerns to nursing or customer service staff; refers news media to nursing or PR staff.
- Medical Records Maintenance: Assembles chart forms; attaches patient identifiers; manages chart handling and transfers; files patient data after nurse review; sends discharge records to Medical Records; gathers and copies paperwork for patient transfers; maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Service Requisitions: Maintains supplies in partnership with Nursing Material Specialists; reviews receipts; submits service requisitions to departments; enters unit activity data; maintains equipment logs and coordinates maintenance with Biomed or relevant department.
- Unit Operations: Maintains a safe, clean environment; completes tasks accurately and timely; assists with basic patient care tasks as directed by a registered nurse; freshens water and handles meal service tasks; responds to call lights and alarms; provides patient observation as delegated; facilitates patient flow and participates in quality improvement activities; may serve as a preceptor; handles controlled substances witnessing as required; supports stock and supply management; adheres to performance excellence standards of safety, courtesy, quality, and efficiency.
