Position Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Director, the Unit Secretary/Nurse Support Tech performs unit functions appropriate to the position, in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and protocols. Functions include viewing the cardiac monitor and notifying RN of any changes, managing supplies/other clerical duties, answering telephones, and other specific clerical duties as directed.
• Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the US/NST performs patient care as directed to anticipate the needs of the patient within the scope of their practice.
• The US/NST collects, reports, and documents patient vital signs and finger stick blood sugars, and keeps the RN informed of pertinent changes in patient condition.
• The US/NST also participates in orientation of new personnel as appropriate.

Position Requirements

Experience: One year hospital experience preferred

Education: High school education required. Phlebotomist certification preferred. CNA certification preferred

Special Qualifications: BLS required.
