Job Summary: Multi-functional role cross-trained to perform Unit Secretary duties and at least one other clinical support job (e.g., Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant). Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides excellent customer service while providing clerical and administrative services; monitoring, ordering, and stocking supplies; and maintaining a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Additional functions may include data collection related to patient status; basic nursing procedures; monitoring; measuring and documenting patient responses; performing and/or assisting with treatments and procedures; and assisting with maintenance of patient care equipment. The percentage of time in clinical support may vary by unit, but at least 20% of time is in a clinical support role.

Essential Functions

• Provide effective customer service to patients, families, and staff; respond with kindness, courtesy, professionalism and efficiency; assist visitors; answer phones/intercoms; participate in patient care rounds with unit staff using AIDET.


• Manage ordering, stocking, and inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with nurse manager; monitor supplies, order office and special supplies, monitor PAR levels, and maintain/organize unit supply rooms.


• Perform general reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station; respond to patient calls; provide administrative support such as data entry, meeting minutes, bulletin boards, and downtime forms.


• Coordinate maintenance of a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning equipment.


• Perform one of the following duties on a nursing unit per the description: PCT/NST/Certified Nursing Assistant. See job functions for specific duties.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

• This is a non-management job that reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care tech or nursing fundamentals class preferred.


• Experience: No experience required.
