Overview
Airport Director Sr. – Commercial Management & Airline Affairs. City of Atlanta. Reporting to the Airport Assistant General Manager of Aeronautical Revenue Development & Management, this role oversees multiple business units, including commercial property management, airline affairs, and compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs assigned functions at the Airport through subordinate assistant directors and managers for airline affairs (passenger and cargo), properties, and compliance.
- Drafts and ensures execution of lease agreements, permits, amendments, and legislative documents.
- Actively reviews tenant compliance with contract terms and ensures corrective action as required.
- Manages a comprehensive property and facilities inventory system within the fence of the Airport.
- Ensures accurate data is entered into airport systems for billing and contract management purposes.
- Maintains and updates airport lease space maps to ensure accuracy.
- Actively coordinates with airlines and other tenant partners on projects, space use needs, etc.
- Arranges and holds quarterly AAAC meetings and other tenant related meetings.
- Manages special projects and handles other duties as assigned.
- Drives performance, productivity and accountability through measurable, results oriented performance metrics.
- Ensures the business needs of the Airport are continually blended with environmental compliance requirements in the planning and support of activities involving capital projects, and overall operation and maintenance of the Airport.
- Validates that all projects/contracts conform to established procurement guidelines.
- Establish departmental goals and evaluate the effectiveness of work processes, systems, and procedures.
- Work with community representatives, City management, and staff to establish departmental goals, objectives, and service needs; initiates meetings and focus groups to identify work plans, priorities, and potential solutions to issues.
- Proactively ensure the airport complies with the U.S. Federal regulations; interprets applicable laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to various Managers and Supervisors or may directly supervise a staff of professionals and team leaders engaged in an organization-wide or policy-advisory activity. Guidance should typically be general and focus on objectives, results, and policies.
- Establish organization strategy and policy within required legislative or executive limitations.
- Make decisions in response to various requests from airport tenants (airlines, concession vendors, FAA, etc.) that may impact airport operations. Construction and maintenance projects are also reviewed, and decisions must be made to ensure safety, efficiency, and customer service are not adversely impacted.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of relevant laws, ordinances, policies, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job and knowledge of inventory practices and procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of airline industry concepts, including prominent players, airline routes, popular aircraft, the overall passenger experience, air cargo industry, airport leasing and rate setting methodologies and practices, etc.
- Skill in effectively and professionally communicating and interacting with elected officials, management, employees, members of the general public and all other groups involved in the activities of the City of Atlanta as they relate to the department.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret financial reports, lease agreements, legal documents, and related materials and assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner.
- Ability to use analytical skills, logic, and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience - Bachelor’s degree in airport management, business administration, or related area. Minimum of five years of applicable work experience in airport/airline affairs, airport commercial property management, or related area.
Preferred Requirements - Airport Accredited Executive (AAE) is highly preferred.
Work Environment
- Physical lifting and sensorial capabilities are required to perform this job successfully.
- The position requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting of 10+ pounds frequently.
- The position requires climbing, balancing, crouching, crawling or the use of stairs and ladders frequently.
- The position requires reaching/working overhead never or occasionally.
- This position requires the ability to work in inclement weather and in varying temperatures.
- The position may require the ability to work in a confined space.
Lifting Requirements
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
Work Schedule
This position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
