Part-Time Faculty - American Sign Language

Located in the heart of New York's historic mid-Hudson Valley, 90 minutes north of New York City, Dutchess Community College (DCC) is one of 64 colleges within the State University of New York (SUNY).

Job Description

The Department of English and Humanities at DCC invites applications for part-time faculty in American Sign Language. The department is searching for instructors for the Fall 2025 semester to teach the following courses:

• ASL 101 - American Sign Language I (3 lecture contact hours/week and 1 lab contact hour/week)
• ASL 102 - American Sign Language II (3 lecture contact hours/week and 1 lab contact hour/week)

Courses are in-person at the main campus in Poughkeepsie or at the Fishkill campus. Courses are offered during the day. Part-time faculty teach assigned class material in accordance with learning objectives developed by the department.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned ASL courses (ASL 101 and ASL 102) in-person at the specified campus locations.
• Deliver course material aligned with department learning objectives.
• Contribute to a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in American Sign Language or related field
• Official academic transcripts required upon hire
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience teaching at the college level, particularly at a community college
• A commitment to diversity and an understanding of how diversity impacts learning and instruction
• Experience and familiarity with a learning management system (LMS) such as Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle
