The Opportunity

The Food Expeditor is located at our American Girl Chicago Flagship Retail Stores and reports to the Café Manager and Assistant Café Manager. This role ensures seamless operations and exceptional guest experiences in our restaurant by linking the kitchen and dining room, delivering timely and accurate food, supporting the service team, and maintaining an inviting ambiance. Responsibilities

• Customer Service: Greet and engage customers, seat guests per service standards, deliver food and beverages with proper etiquette, and maintain tables; support upselling where appropriate. Only team members 21+ may serve alcoholic beverages where required.
• Personalized Service: Provide positive, child-friendly communication and use sound judgment in challenging situations; escalate to supervisors when needed.
• Event & Programs: Manage special requests and birthday celebrations; share information about store and restaurant events and ensure execution of activities and holiday celebrations; demonstrate the MAGIC principles in guest interactions.
• Daily Operations: Complete daily tasks and side work while prioritizing service; contribute to a welcoming atmosphere through lighting, music, and table arrangement; work with the team to deliver food, bussing, resetting tables, beverages, and to-go transactions; support party and storewide events and stock supplies.
• Food Safety & Hygiene: Adhere to food safety standards, proper handling, labeling, FIFO, temperature control, cross-contamination avoidance, and general safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Policies & Appearance: Understand and adhere to company policies; proficient POS transactions; maintain punctuality, dress code, and professional appearance; comply with attendance and schedule standards.

Qualifications

• 0-1 year in the restaurant or hospitality industry (entry-level encouraged if strong teamwork and customer service)
• Serve Safe Certification (preferred)
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team
• Strong organizational skills and multitasking in a dynamic environment
• Proficiency with POS systems
• Positive, adaptable attitude with a passion for delivering outstanding service
• Attention to detail, especially around food safety and cleanliness
• Genuine enthusiasm for working with children and families
