Corporate/Staff Interpreter, ASL (American Sign Language), Houston, TX
The Corporate/Staff ASL Interpreter provides American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, transliteration, and sight translation communication access either consecutively or simultaneously to appointed Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing and associated clientele.
General Duties
- Adhere to NAD/RID Code of Professional Conduct
- Adhere to and follow all MasterWord ISO required processes in reporting, escalation, and documentation
- Adhere to the MasterWord Communication Plan for all internal and external communications
- Attend scheduled division specific events when applicable
- Provide effective communication interpretation services to members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community both in-person and remotely in diverse industry settings
- Support the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department with internal interpretation needs for Deaf/HH staff, operational needs, and other duties for the division as assigned.
- Provide observational feedback on operational or service adjustments that may be needed, such as the recommendation for a Certified or Qualified Deaf Interpreter
- Demonstrate MasterWord’s core values at all times in conjunction with any MasterWord performed duty or responsibility
- Other duties as assigned, record and file retention, and other related general office duties.
- Backup receptionist and administrative assistant duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree or higher is preferred or five (5) years of compensated interpreting experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Broad knowledge of Deaf culture, the ASL interpreting field, basic linguistics, and medical terminology in American Sign Language and English
- Progressive experience in medical interpretation settings working within diverse organizations and multi-cultural environments
- Must be willing to work occasional extensive hours to meet possible client needs and provide after-hours on-call support on a scheduled rotating basis
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
