Job Summary

Information Technology Services at MCCCD seeks an elite Cybersecurity Engineer to elevate security posture and protect mission-critical systems. Reporting to the Director of Security Operations, the role drives security innovation across enterprise, cloud, and hybrid environments. The engineer will leverage EDR platforms, next-generation firewalls, and SIEM/SOAR to lead threat hunting, incident response, and forensics. Responsibilities include vulnerability management, disaster recovery, and building resilient architectures in AWS, Azure, and GCP.

This is a leadership-focused security role aimed at guiding engineering initiatives, influencing enterprise security strategy, and solving complex, high-impact challenges to protect assets and ensure operations.

Essential Functions

Note: In-office work is required with a minimum in-office expectation; the District reserves the right to update this policy.

  1. Security Technology Management (20%)
    • Designs, configures, deploys, and maintains enterprise security technologies (NGFWs, IDS/IPS, EDR/XDR, SIEM/SOAR, vulnerability tools); ensures continuous optimization for detection and prevention.
  2. Infrastructure Security Collaboration (20%)
    • Partners with network, systems, and cloud teams to implement secure configurations and hardening across on-premises and cloud, enforcing security best practices and standards.
  3. Cybersecurity Leadership & Project Execution (15%)
    • Leads and executes enterprise cybersecurity projects; acts as SME and trusted advisor to Director and executive leadership.
  4. Vulnerability Management & Remediation (15%)
    • Conducts and analyzes vulnerability scans; tracks remediation, prioritizes risks, and coordinates mitigation with IT and application owners.
  5. Threat Monitoring & Incident Response (15%)
    • Monitors SIEM dashboards, triages threats, investigates incidents, escalates as needed, and documents findings with remediation recommendations.
  6. Security Architecture & Vendor Coordination (10%)
    • Manages cross-functional teams, assesses vendor security postures, and implements controls aligned with frameworks and best practices.
  7. Administrative Responsibilities (5%)
    • Participates in district committees and related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in information technology, information security, computer science, cybersecurity, network security, or related field plus five (5) years of technical security experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field plus two (2) years of relevant IT initiatives; OR equivalent combination of education/experience/certifications. Certifications may substitute for education/experience as allowed by law.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Experience with cloud security frameworks (SASE)
  2. Experience with vulnerability management and endpoint security
  3. Experience in threat detection, risk management, and mitigation strategies
  4. Experience scripting (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) for security automation
  5. Experience with security configuration and hardening Windows and Linux
  6. Industry certifications such as OSCP, CISSP, Security+ or cloud security certifications (AWS/Azure/Google)

Special Working Conditions

Mandatory in-office requirement (currently two days onsite); candidate must reside in the Phoenix area or relocate within six months. Role may involve after-hours work and non-regular hours. May require prolonged sitting and computer use. MCCCD does not sponsor work visas.
