General Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, cybersecurity, or a related field from an accredited institution. Five years of experience in cybersecurity or information security, with at least 2 years in a leadership or director-level role in any Information Technology field. Experience managing a team of cybersecurity analysts is strongly preferred. Security professional-level certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA, OSCP) is required; additional security certifications such as Security+, CEH, or CCSP are highly desirable. Relevant experience in a large state institution of higher education is also desirable. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Performs advanced or managerial cybersecurity analysis, providing strategic direction and guidance. Oversees the prevention of data breaches and monitors/responds to cyber threats. Analyzes vulnerabilities, investigates tools and countermeasures, and recommends solutions. Provides leadership and ensures best practices in cybersecurity are followed and improved.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Develops and implements the strategic vision for Information Security, aligning with organizational goals. Manages cybersecurity infrastructure deployment and protects critical services. Conducts research on cybersecurity trends and evaluates tools and techniques. Continuously improves cybersecurity processes, tools, and methodologies. Oversees detection activities, threat assessment, incident response, and forensic tools. Develops safeguards for system resiliency and cybersecurity awareness training. Acts as escalation point, promotes innovative practices, and provides leadership and management to the department. Develops policies, procedures, and ensures compliance with laws and policies. Manages personnel, work assignments, training, and technical direction. Evaluates programs, develops strategies, and ensures efficient operations. Responsible for department administration, including budgeting. Represents the department on committees and performs related duties as assigned.
