Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an Associate to join its Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. The role offers significant responsibility in advising clients on U.S.-based privacy compliance, including leadership on client matters, drafting legal frameworks, and providing practical regulatory guidance. This position is ideal for attorneys with deep knowledge of state privacy laws and sector-specific regulations, especially in the health and financial industries. Location:

Duties:

Advise clients on compliance with U.S. state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, WA MHMD, and similar regulations)

Conduct gap assessments and assist in developing comprehensive privacy compliance programs

Draft policies and documentation, including:

Data Subject Rights (DSR) procedures

Incident response plans and tabletop exercises

Contracting templates and playbooks

Advise on sector-specific regulations in the financial and health/life sciences industries, including:

GLBA, CalFIPA, FCRA

HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, state health privacy laws

FTC/CFPB regulations (Reg P, Safeguards Rule)

Collaborate one-on-one with supervising partners and occasionally supervise junior lawyers or paralegals

Independently manage client matters or substantial portions of complex projects

Requirements:

4–6 years of data privacy counseling experience (excluding incident response, M&A diligence, or cybersecurity)

Demonstrated experience with state privacy laws and practical implementation strategies

Prior experience advising on adtech and online trackers (e.g., TCPA, CAN-SPAM, DAA/NAI/IAB guidelines) strongly preferred

Experience in advising clients in regulated industries (financial and healthcare sectors strongly preferred)

Proven ability to lead matters, deliver practical legal advice, and manage competing deadlines

Must have large law firm experience (boutique firm experience may be considered)

Self-motivated, adaptable, and effective under pressure

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications (Preferred):

Certified Information Privacy Professional (e.g., CIPP-US, CIPT, CIPM)

Certifications (Required):

Licensed to practice law and in good standing in the jurisdiction of application

Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Exceptional legal drafting, analytical, and project management capabilities

Strong judgment and a practical, client-oriented approach

Comfortable working in a collaborative, team-based environment

High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple high-stakes assignments
