AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist to be based in one of the specified offices. This role includes fieldwork and collaboration with ecological teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the lead Ecologist/Wetland Scientist in performing stream, wetland, wildlife habitat assessments, and other ecological surveys.
  • Assisting ecological leads with processing field data and developing/originating ecological assessment reports and utilizing equipment such as tablets and GPS units.
  • Coordinating with governmental agencies regarding ecological survey protocols, reporting standards, or endangered and threatened species coordination.
  • Reviewing desktop information to complete environmental impact assessments.
  • Working with team leads to become familiar with field survey equipment, data forms and other data collection and reporting tools.
  • Assisting in preparing permit applications and other technical information.
  • Collecting and analyzing data under the supervision of an experienced engineer/scientist.
  • Using computer software as a tool for data management and calculations.
  • Performing work in accordance with approved budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Local travel is likely and U.S travel may be possible depending on the project.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field.
  • Valid US Driver's License is required for this position.
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of basic environmental sciences.
  • Proficiency in standard office suite software applications.
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.
  • Ability to write and convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.
  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.
  • Tolerance for work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently, both in an office environment and in the field.
  • Ability to travel locally, including occasional extended travel.

Additional Information

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • The position requires fieldwork, and the candidate must have reliable transportation and be able to travel overnight.
  • Travel is required for this position. Clean driving record and a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in-office work in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, or Virginia. The selected candidate must be available to work in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, or Virginia on a scheduled basis.
  • Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $54,000.00 - $72,000.00.
