An exciting opportunity awaits you to join us as the Director, Office of Respect Life Ministry.
This position will provide a transformative Catholic presence in the 10 counties of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee through respect life initiatives. It is responsible for promoting respect for life from natural conception to natural death and for coordinating existing groups and resources. The role emphasizes missionary outreach to pastors and parish leaders to inspire, form, and mobilize Catholics for their mission to respect all human life.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with Respect Life Ministry groups and pregnancy help centers, including high school and college pro-life groups.
- Engage in outreach to pastors and parish leaders.
- Represent the Archdiocese at events and functions.
- Coordinate the annual Respect Life Mass, ensuring parish engagement and promotion.
- Coordinate the Mass of Hope and Healing, ensuring parish engagement and promotion.
- Partner with 40 Days for Life and parishes to coordinate prayerful witness opportunities.
- Mobilize parish leaders around respect life initiatives and issues.
- Implement the Walking with Moms in Need initiatives and direct programs from the Wisconsin State Bishops and the USCCB.
- Disseminate Respect Life materials to parishes and schools.
- Direct the First Saturday Traveling Rosary for Life initiative.
- Complete diocesan evaluation research and paperwork for the Knights of Columbus grant applications.
- Work with the bishops to produce the annual Respect Life Prayer Card.
- Hold Respect Life Church Hall meetings and speak at parishes, schools, and other forums.
- Direct Project Rachel: ensure accessibility, confidentiality and compassionate pastoral care.
- Recruit and form volunteers. Design healing programs, such as retreats and support groups.
- Establish and grow a prayer network. Train priests and deacons. Provide referrals to Catholic counselors.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of relationships with respect life groups and pregnancy help centers in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
- Ability to share Catholic Social Teaching with others, particularly related to respect life issues.
- Strong public speaking skills and the ability to teach and form others effectively.
- Knowledge of the Church's mission to make disciples and mobilize for action.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to draw disparate groups together; a bridge-builder.
- Skills in pastoral care and counseling.
- Ability to practice servant leadership.
Education, Training, and Experience
- Master's degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Ethics, or a related field, or equivalent formation as a deacon, chaplain or through extensive pastoral ministry experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in pastoral ministry, parish leadership, or pro-life advocacy. Strong knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, including women in crisis pregnancies and those affected by post-abortion trauma.
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, with a dynamic faith life.
- Experience in program development and implementation in a diocese or parish setting. Budget management experience required.
- Experience in navigating sensitive pastoral conversations with empathy and discretion.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to travel within all ten counties of the Archdiocese.
- Ability to perform essential functions that include speaking, reading, reaching, grasping, sitting for prolonged periods, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, climbing, squatting, and kneeling. Compensation and Benefits
The position is a full-time (40 hours per week), salaried position working in-person at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Pastoral Center. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee provides a full scope of employment benefits, including medical, dental, vision, flextime, Catholic school tuition assistance for children of employees, and a pension program. Evening and weekend work are essential to this position. Working conditions are partially office based, but also include travel to and from meetings and events throughout the archdiocese, and include occasional outdoor events.
