Position Summary
We are seeking a team-oriented and energetic problem solver to join our environmental science team in Indianapolis. This role involves working with Project Managers, Geologists, Ecologists, and Environmental Specialists on characterizing natural resources and assessing potential environmental impacts on infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will share our vision of integrating the built environment with natural resources through common-sense solutions while maintaining high standards of excellence in our environmental practice.
Responsibilities
General Duties
- Prepare environmental documentation under NEPA requirements
- Conduct wetland and waterway delineations and assessments
- Prepare delineation reports and waterway permits
- Assist with wetland/stream mitigation plans, mitigation site monitoring, Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments, and general environmental consulting
Technical Duties
- Perform field data collection for environmental investigations and natural resource surveys
- Collect and analyze soil, water, and other samples
- Gather geographic information, including GPS data, for project sites
- Create maps using GIS software to depict environmental data
- Analyze data to identify impacts and develop mitigation strategies
- Develop technical reports and permit applications
- Coordinate with government agencies regarding natural and socio-economic resources
- Maintain proficiency with environmental regulations related to transportation and civil works
- Support public participation and outreach efforts
Client Coordination
- Maintain positive client relationships and assist with project questions and scope
- Identify new business opportunities and support sales efforts
Quality Assurance
- Ensure work products meet quality standards and follow procedures
- Review reports, maps, and plans for accuracy
- Respond promptly to regulatory comments and issues
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field
- 4+ years of relevant experience in consulting or regulatory environments
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Ability to access remote sites and uneven terrain
- Certification in FHWA/INDOT NEPA (or ability to obtain)
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in MS Office; GIS experience preferred
