Overview

As part of our brand-new restaurant team, the Bartender helps create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere—crafting quality drinks, serving great food, and making real connections with every guest. This is a great opportunity to be part of something new from the very beginning; hiring begins in August, for an opening in September.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve beverages using established pour standards and drink recipes.
  • Promote house drinks and use up-selling skills to increase revenue.
  • Set up bar including all liquor, mixers, ice, garnishes, glassware, and supplies.
  • Receive cash and credit payments from customers; give accurate change.
  • Count and secure bartender’s bank and balance cash drawer at end of shift in line with hotel procedures.
  • Deliver superior service and maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate food service with restaurant for bar/lounge guests if applicable.
  • Monitor guest behavior and guest alcohol consumption to determine when alcohol service to the guest should cease.
  • Notify management of incidents involving excessive alcohol consumption or impaired condition of guests.
  • Check identification of guests appearing to be under the age of 40.
  • Solve guest problems/complaints using appropriate service recovery guidelines.
  • Engage with guests and fellow associates and work as a team.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift work as assigned.
  • Requisition necessary supplies in line with hotel procedures and manage liquor inventory.
  • Ensure liquor is properly secured before, during, and at close of shift.
  • Inspect all equipment and machinery for proper operation.
  • Ensure workspace, equipment, and floors are cleaned.
  • Follow hotel safety protocols and procedures at all times; report safety/service incidents to the Banquet Manager/Supervisor or the Person In Charge (PIC).
  • Work as a team and communicate with other departments to ensure excellent quality of service.
  • Additional duties as necessary and assigned.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, Duties, And Abilities

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and reasoning skills are essential.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Communication skills, written or verbal, in the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math.
  • Ability to navigate necessary software and applications.
  • Ability to comply with local laws regarding food handling or serving of alcohol, including the ability to take and pass the ServSafe Alcohol Safety class and exam.

Physical Demands

  • Most work tasks are indoors; temperature is moderate. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10 ºF) and kitchens (+110 ºF) for up to one hour or more.
  • Must be able to lift and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds regularly; maneuver carts or equipment weighing up to 250 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
  • Must be able to maneuver between tables and in tight spaces; position self to fulfill cleaning tasks.
  • Frequent grasping, reaching, repetitive motions, and manual dexterity.

Requirements

A high school or equivalent education is preferred. Minimum of six months of prior food service experience is preferred. Must meet the minimum age to serve alcohol as required by local law. Associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect business needs. Attendance at training sessions and meetings is required. Upon employment, all associates must comply with Crowne Plaza Lansing West rules and regulations. Violations may result in disciplinary action, up to dismissal.
