What Happens in Shipping and Receiving Anyway?

  • Interact with donors to accept and process donations at trailer sites in an outdoor setting; provide outstanding service to all donors
  • Receive newly donated items from our Donations team
  • Sort and ship recyclable items to support sustainability
  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work in heat, cold, and wet weather conditions
  • Unload trailers in a safe and efficient manner
  • Operate as part of a team to ensure items reach the appropriate areas

Teamwork

Position Title: Dock Team Member

Reports To: Dock Supervisor

Department: Operations

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Position Purpose and Objectives

America’s Thrift Stores is hiring Dock Team Members. We seek individuals who thrive in a warehouse setting, value teamwork, have a strong work ethic, and are passionate about helping others. Ideal candidates provide excellent customer service to donors, excel in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy both indoor and outdoor work. This role blends charitable work with an interest in retail.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Count, weigh, and measure incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Ensure timely movement of materials to the appropriate areas
  • Track and document movements and weights in the required system
  • Identify and document shortages or discrepancies and communicate issues to management
  • Operate material handling equipment safely with PPE
  • Assist customers and donors at the store donation center as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management

Skills and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Familiarity with company policies and procedures and ability to follow them
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with peers and management
  • Strong record-keeping and clear communication of progress to management
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Successful completion of background check, motor vehicle check, and drug screen
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently lift up to 50 lbs; push/pull up to 25 lbs; climb up to 14 feet; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, handle items
  • Frequently walk on tile/concrete, bend, feel, reach
  • Continuously stand, talk, see, and hear

Other:

  • Mostly regular and weekend hours; occasionally evenings and holidays as needed
  • Working environment includes indoor with controlled temperatures and outdoor with varying weather
