Reports to: Supervisor. The Press Room Assistant’s responsibilities include and are not limited to preparing the press for printing. An assistant will stage all jobs for the press which include plates, coating blanket, master or proofs, ink, and anything specific to jobs. The assistant will also set up all jobs on Integration Pilot and send over to the designated press. With the press room being a continuous run, the assistant will cover press crews’ breaks and lunches. When the press room assistant has fulfilled all their daily tasks, the supervisor will use them in a utility role running the aerator, stripping, or support on the production floor.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the jobs for the press, including staging Job Tickets, Plates, Coating blankets, Master sheets or Proofs, Inks, and sending Zip files from Integration Pilot to the designated Press.
- Stage and verify stock counts; support Make Ready tasks as required.
- Assist press crew during operation by feeding the press, checking copy and inks, pulling and aerating loads, and performing miscellaneous tasks.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and support continuous production running.
- Provide daily feedback to supervision regarding shift activities; complete forms, logs, and records as required.
- Adhere to safety rules and follow the directions of the Shift Supervisor.
- Make plates when needed and aerate loads when required.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma
- 3-5+ years in industry-specific experience
- Interpersonal/work relationship skills
Skills & Qualifications
- Proficient in math, writing and computer skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Capable of effectively managing a production crew
- Detail oriented with working knowledge of industry-specific information
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read measurements (tape, ruler, caliper)
Physical Demands
- Lifting up to 50 pounds with intermittent stooping and bending
- Standing for extended periods
- Specific vision abilities including close, distance, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
- Work environment is not temperature controlled
