Overview

The Salvation Army ARC - San Jose is a no-fee program supporting rehabilitation. The organization relies on employees to maintain and support its programs. This role focuses on warehouse operations, route handling, and safe material processing in coordination with the Transportation Supervisor and team.

Essential Job Duties

  • Follow daily routing directions and avoid going off route unless directed by the Transportation Supervisor or designee.
  • Manage time daily to ensure the route is completed within the approved work schedule; routes are to be completed each day unless approved otherwise.
  • Responsible for the safe loading and unloading of the assigned truck. Assist in the safe loading or unloading of other trucks as requested.
  • Handle all donated material with safe handling procedures and required PPE; ensure donations return damage-free to their destination.
  • Train, instruct and supervise a truck helper in their Work Task Analysis (WTA), considering the helper may be in a rehabilitation program and emphasizing professional conduct.
  • Responsible for Bag & Tag as instructed by Supervisor and procedure.
  • Complete all pre- and post-checks daily; report any exceptions to the Transportation Supervisor before operating the vehicle and before clocking out. Ensure all equipment is in working order and properly secured for transport.
  • Represent The Salvation Army by providing courteous customer service and report donor problems to the supervisor through dispatch.
  • Promptly report all accidents involving trucks, injuries, or property damage to the immediate supervisor.
  • Abide by DOT regulations and state/local laws; maintain a safe driving record and attend required driver safety meetings.
  • Report all safety procedure infractions to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Adhere to meal and rest breaks per state law and company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor, Director of Production, or their designees.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Clean driving record
  • Strong time management and customer service skills
  • Ability to operate electronic equipment used for daily route information
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, drawers, carts, fixtures, and other equipment.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks
