At KMEC Engineering and Conveying, we design and manufacture a wide range of bulk material handling equipment, such as conveyors, hoppers, bins, feeders, ship and barge loaders/unloaders, and structural steel fabrication. We also design and build radial stackers and TeleStackers. We are currently searching for a Manufacturing Engineer that will act as a bridge between Engineering and Production who will report to the Engineering Manager.
Position Description
The Manufacturing Engineer will serve as a link between the engineering department and the fabrication shop, ensuring that design intent is accurately translated into manufacturable components and assemblies. The role involves addressing drawing and manufacturing issues, responding to fabrication-related queries, and clarifying both design details and production processes. This position supports resolving design-to-fabrication challenges, and maintaining clear, effective communication between design engineers and shop personnel.

This position supports resolving design-to-fabrication challenges, and maintaining clear, effective communication between design engineers and shop personnel.
Job Rresponsibilities:
- Review engineering drawings and 3D models to ensure components and assemblies are manufacturable and comply with fabrication capabilities.
- Liaise between the engineering and fabrication teams to resolve documentation discrepancies, clarify design intent, and address shop floor queries.
- Participate in product design reviews and evaluate new materials and fabrication techniques to support continuous improvement.
- Design tooling jigs and fixtures as needed to support safe, efficient work.
- Document Standard Work procedures and ensure standard work is implemented correctly.
- Create manufacturing and assembly plans that align with design requirements and production capabilities.
- Perform time and motion studies.
- Identify improvements to enhance safety and productivity.
- Participate in design reviews, focusing on manufacturability, material selection, welding/joint design, tolerances, and cost optimization.
- Maintain and update fabrication standards and best practices in alignment with engineering specifications and industry standards.
- Provide manufacturability feedback to design department during the development phase to reduce production issues and rework.
- Maintain and update fabrication standards, ensuring alignment with current engineering and fabrication best practices.
- Support the implementation of engineering changes/revisions by ensuring proper documentation, version control, and communication with shop and production personnel.
- Preferred a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, welding symbols
- Experience with large, fabricated components
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data and make data-driven decisions.
- Experience with drawing packages such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, and/or Tekla.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex drawings.
- Ability to work on the shop floor 50% of the time.
- Understanding of welding practices and AWS structural welding code / Certified weld inspector.
- Ability to work independently
- Strong understanding of fabrication methods such as welding, machining, and assembly.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment and be a self-starter.
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Must be able to process information and follow guidelines
- Demonstrates understanding and support of company initiatives and direction
- Proficient in ERP software
