ABOUT THE POSITION
The Manufacturing Engineer is the primary process owner, collaborating closely with manufacturing, quality, OpEx, and safety teams to develop safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing methods. The role involves identifying process improvement opportunities using Kaizen, lean tools, and methods to enhance productivity and reduce costs. The engineer leads cross-functional events to analyze and deploy standards, improve quality, ensure on-time delivery, and control costs, applying visual and auditable manufacturing best practices to solve problems, improve performance, and eliminate waste.
Deliverables & Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate manufacturing methods, recommending improvements through new processes and modifications to minimize costs and optimize production capabilities.
- Implement process improvements via time studies, process mapping, value-stream mapping, spaghetti mapping, workload balancing, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Achieve safety and process improvements using lean tools, reducing cycle-time, rework, scrap, inventory, overtime, space, and improving on-time completion.
- Facilitate continuous improvements and lean training for employees.
- Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space, material routing, manufacturing processes, machine and tool design, workflow, and layout for efficiency, safety, and quality.
- Estimate production times, capacity, and costs to inform management decisions and meet specifications.
- Develop proposals, evaluate development programs, and recommend changes to improve quality, productivity, manufacturability, and safety.
- Apply statistical methods to estimate manufacturing requirements and potential.
- Manage the transition of new products from engineering to manufacturing, ensuring capacity, process robustness, and validation.
- Maintain manufacturing process work instructions and assembly tooling, initiating updates from design or process improvements.
- Specify new equipment and design fixtures, jigs, and tooling to meet production and quality standards.
- Prepare and deliver presentations using Microsoft Office.
- Research, organize, analyze, and maintain technical records.
- Adhere to company policies, safety rules, and procedures.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial, manufacturing, mechanical engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of three years of manufacturing experience, with understanding of heavy machinery processes.
- Knowledge of machine shop operations and processes.
- Experience with LEAN methodologies.
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerBI for data analysis.
- Knowledge of metal-forming processes, including laser cutting, machining, welding, flame cutting, and bending.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and symbols.
- Strong collaboration and facilitation skills for cross-functional teams in a multi-shift environment.
Additional Requirements
Reasoning Ability: Ability to analyze data, define problems, and draw valid conclusions with strong troubleshooting skills.
Physical Demands: Regular use of hands, reaching, climbing, stooping, and occasional lifting over 49 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment: Exposure to shop and warehouse environments, moving mechanical parts, weather, chemicals, and noise. Reasonable accommodations are provided as needed.
