The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for all fabrication activities. They are the Super User on all fabrication equipment including programming software and mechanical troubleshooting. They are the point of contact for the fabrication equipment vendor for all remote and onsite service-related issues and will work closely with the maintenance technician on all preventive maintenance activities. The Manufacturing Engineer will support the development of material handling equipment for all work in process stages.
The Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Executive Director of Innovation and Engineering. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with Product Development, Quality, Manufacturing and Production to support and improve our products and manufacturing processes.
Core Responsibilities:
- Super User on all fabrication equipment including the Robotic Laser, Robotic and Manual Press Brakes and the Robotic and Manual Laser Welders.
- Review and modify fabrication software program files provided by Product Development during the prototyping phase for new products.
- Develop, maintain and implement preventative maintenance programs for all fabrication equipment.
- Point of contact with equipment suppliers for remote and onsite troubleshooting with the fabrication equipment.
- Support the development of material handling racks and fixtures as required for the fabrication process to ensure proper handling of the WIP to avoid damage.
- Support the development of weld fixtures for the Robotic Laser Welder.
- Programming of the Robotic Laser Welder for new products and weld fixtures.
- Aid in the specifying of new fabrication equipment and manage the commissioning of all new equipment including all connections and facility upgrades
- Support all phases of the fabrication processes, including product quality, cost improvements, on-time delivery, and product manufacturability.
- Regularly analyze manufacturing process flows for the enhancement of quality, cost reduction, and throughput.
- Identify improvement opportunities (reduce cost, eliminate wastes, improve cycle time and capacity, improve production flow, reduce raw material consumption, etc.).
- Develop and implement process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments.
- Actively support manufacturing and fabrication for any problems with equipment and processes.
- Creating and issuing fully detailed manufacturing instructions including applicable metrology and inspection plans for the fabrication plant.
- Ensure engineering systems used are the best possible to guarantee product integrity, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Performing Time and Motion studies and maintaining manufacturing Time Standards data.
- Investigation of non-conformance to determine root causes and develop and implement corrective action with follow-up as required utilizing the Non-Conformance (NC) system.
- Provide decisive and effective technical leadership to the organization.
- Clearly and consistently communicate product feedback to the engineering organization to support the engineering organizations efforts towards design enhancements and improvements to current product offerings.
- Develop engineering processes and best practices that ensure all products meet the proper safety, reliability, and performance standard including compliance and required regulations.
- Supply training to direct and indirect reports as required to enhance departmental performance this includes regular coaching and counseling on all aspects of job responsibilities.
- Test and evaluate product development prototypes and provide feedback on areas for improvement regarding design and manufacturability.
- Respond to design and innovation requirements for improving, manufacturing and assembly.
Additional Duties:
- Update and maintain all existing programming documentation for the various fabrication cells.
- Update and maintain standard operating procedures for the various fabrication activities.
- Maintain stock levels for all consumables of the fabrication equipment.
Administration:
- Maintains an acceptable level of performance by following established policies and procedures and participating in continuous improvement efforts by supporting and implementing new ideas.

Qualifications:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Diploma in CNC/CAM, Manufacturing/Engineering, or equivalent and/or 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience in programming for laser cutting. Ideally with Amada fiber lasers.
- Proven experience in robotic press brake programming. Ideally with Amada.
- Experience in programming for robotic laser welding. Ideally with the Amada FLW laser welding cell.
- Strong skills in Human Factors Engineering (Ergonomics) for fabrication related safety.
- Strong skills in manufacturing and processing engineering with knowledge of machining, welding and fabrication.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, IronCAD or SolidWorks
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
