The manufacturing engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. The manufacturing engineer is responsible for owning, evaluating, and optimizing current and new processes to drive efficiencies in production using lean tools. A specific focus in this position will be PCBA programming of equipment. They must design and implement manufacturing methods and processes that continually improve employee safety, product quality, and labor productivity goals and objectives for both new and existing products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides necessary support within the printed circuit board assembly area to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
  • Troubleshoots manufacturing problems and implements timely sustainable solutions to maintain continuity of production flow.
  • Develop and debug circuit board assembly machine programs for the following equipment:
    • Stencil Printers – MPM Momentum
    • SMT (Surface Mount Technology) machines – Universal Genesis and MyData MY100 series
    • Reflow Ovens – Electrovert Omniflex and Omnimax 7
    • AOI Machines – Yestech, Yamaha 3D
    • Selective Solder – KISS 102/103
    • Axial Insertion – Universal
    • Wave Solder – Electrovert Vectra ES
    • PCB (Printed Circuit Boards) Wash - Aquastorm
  • Participates on new product development projects. Interfaces with other departments during development process to ensure design for safety, quality, manufacturability, and cost position.
  • Designs manufacturing processes within schedule and budgetary parameters.
  • Identifies capital equipment needs and makes recommendations to management.
  • Assists in developing justification of capital equipment.
  • Prepares design concept drawings, cost estimates, and implementation schedules for production equipment and tooling.
  • Trains and qualifies production operators ensuring that they can perform their job safely and meet product quality and labor productivity standards.
  • Reviews and recommends changes to mechanical drawings and process documentation.
  • Initiates engineering change requests and material deviations to improve manufacturability of products and processes.
  • Interfaces with vendors and outside sales personnel to evaluate, cost estimate, and select purchase parts and production equipment.
  • Participates on or leads improvement workshops (Kaizens).
  • Develop, update, and maintain product bill of materials, routing, and cost structure information in ERP system.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required, preferably Industrial, Electrical, or Electro-mechanical Engineering.
  • At least three (3) years of specifically related experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience with lean tools and principles would be beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency with the following software:
    • GerbTool (Preferred but not required) – Stencil Development and ordering and PCB layer design review
    • Aegis (Preferred but not required) – SMT machine assembly programs, work instruction
    • AutoCAD (Preferred but not required) – Boardroom/Machine layout changes
    • SOLIDWORKS (Preferred but not required) – Preferred for fixture/tooling development
