Overview

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing new machinery, equipment, and production systems to enhance operational efficiency. You will plan and execute modifications to existing equipment to improve functionality, safety, and reliability. Your role will involve conducting feasibility studies and technical evaluations for new and modified equipment, creating detailed design drawings and technical documentation using CAD software, and specifying requirements for new equipment, both in-house and vendor-supplied.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new machinery, equipment, and production systems to improve operational efficiency.
  • Plan and execute modifications to existing equipment to enhance functionality, safety, and reliability.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations for new and modified equipment.
  • Create detailed design drawings and technical documentation using CAD software.
  • Specify requirements for new equipment, including both in-house designs and vendor-supplied systems, and evaluate their feasibility and compliance with operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations (e.g., OSHA), and company policies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, process engineer and quality assurance, to optimize designs and ensure successful implementation.
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Assess the validity and suitability of commercial equipment and vendor-designed solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during installation and operation.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in mechanical design and manufacturing technologies.

Essential Skills / Qualifications

  • Proficiency in 2D CAD software (AutoCAD) for mechanical design and drafting.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, material selection, and machine components.
  • Understanding and application of Tolerances and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Experience with measurement instruments.
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical circuits.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Prior experience in process/manufacturing/design engineering.
  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in Engineering or Design from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, CAD, and database utilization.
  • Experience with PLCs, automation, and control systems is a plus.
  • Experience with 3D CAD (Inventor) is a plus.

Pay and Benefits

  • Pay range: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year

Work Environment

This position is fully onsite in Virginia Beach, VA. Employees may sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be required, with the ability to lift up to 20 pounds. The work environment includes hot, cold, and noisy conditions. Safety glasses and safety shoes are required when entering the production facility and warehouse.
